Meal Plan

Having a meal plan is quite advantageous as it helps one to manage time and resources effectively. Saves one the time of deciding what to eat and how to go about it as the plan encourages being proactive. Resources and funds are prudently managed keeping the budget and body in good shape. Psychologically, having a plan for meals improves ones esteem and lifestyle. Above all, good health is not far fetched from this plan as food is the best medicine and in case of any food related illness, it could be traced to the last meals taken instead of eating haphazardly.

In most Nigerian homes today, food is made or provided for just twice a day which are brunch - some time between 11am and 1pm and Dinner - some time between 9pm and 11pm. A typical Nigerian meal in a day would be bread and beans as brunch and swallow - a meal heavy on calories such as eba/tuwo and vegetable soup or some will prefer rice as brunch and swallow still as dinner. Taking swallow(as it commonly called because it is usually swallowed with little or no mastication) as dinner is quite obtainable in Nigeria. This is the reason why it takes a while before most people can sleep deep and sound and also the reason why people wake up tired or sick with long mornings as the body has not had enough rest. This also causes frequent bowel movements in the mornings due to indigestion.

Ideally, meals should be taken three times daily which includes breakfast - a light meal, lunch - a heavy meal - which is the major meal of the day and dinner - a light meal as well - to enhance a good night rest and productive morning.

Creating a meal plan could sound like a wish list or a fairy-tale. Could even sound boring especially if you want each meal to be a delicacy and a time to look forward to. This applies more to a young Nigerian buzzing with a lot of energy to make the most out of life early. They just munch on whatever is available to them at the moment of hunger even if being proactive or making a choice wouldn't be as expensive or time consuming as thought. It is relatively cheap to have a meal plan or schedule than to eat whatever your mind longs for or is available. At many times, what our minds long for are detrimental to our health  but we still want it anyway because we have no plan. just as the popular saying goes "if you have no destination, anywhere is a destination" or because "everything tastes good when one is hungry"

As food (which is any edible substance that nourishes the body - not detrimental to the health) is essential to the well-being of man, being intentional with our meals by having a plan is quite essential.
