Lagos Traffic Nuggets

If there is a state to visit in Nigeria, it is definitely Lagos. The economic hub of the country. Lagos boasts to be the most populous state in Nigeria and also the largest in Africa with a growing population currently exceeding 17million residents.(1) If Lagos were a country, it would be the fifth largest economy in Africa.(2)

The traffic in Lagos is the most dynamic Quick Service Restaurant with a range of local and international delicacies some of which are scarce in stores. Some products are usually more affordable in traffic than in stores. Little wonder commuters would prefer to buy in traffic than in stores considering the cost and time envisaged to be spent in the store could be used to cover a good distance in traffic while buying the products alongside.

The menu in Lagos traffic include but not limited to:
Snacks : sausage, pie, doughnut, biscuit, nuts
Drinks  : carbonated drinks, fresh juices, water,
Fruits  : fruit salad, fresh fruits,
Bread, cake, yogurt, vegetables, okpa, moimoi, and a lot more.

The traffic can as well be referred to as the Largest Mobile Mall having various products besides food such as books, clothes, accessories, jewelries, upholstery, electronics, phones, CDs

As interesting and profiting as the traffic  sounds, it cannot be predicted and can be discouraging and appalling to a new commuter in Lagos but this is woven into the fabric of most Lagosians. A day in Lagos without traffic must be due to election only and nothing more meaning you'll only successfully predict a traffic-free day in every four years. The traffic sometimes can be due to the public buses(mostly yellow in colour) transporting individuals that stop indiscriminately at road sides instead of using the designated bus/stop to drop and pick commuters violating traffic rules & regulations. And sometimes it could be due to impatience of drivers, accidents, vehicle break down among others.

As much as Lagosians complain about the traffic, occasions when there is no traffic on some major roads and the transit is fast and seamless, they are skeptical and begin to question the free movement.

As you commute around Lagos, here are some nuggets to guide you:

*Don't board a bus that you cannot figure out its destination. When the conductor (the person who calls the destination of the bus, coordinates the boarding and alighting the passengers including collection of fares) calls, you might not hear and might end up in a destination other than the desired and usually without a refund of fares.

* when buying something collect the desired product first before you pay. If you pay before collection, it is a 90-10 percent probability. 10% probability that you'll get the product and 90% probability that your money flies in the wind.
