Halloween in Lafia

We don't celebrate Halloween
in Lafia, but we do
when the rain kiss the earth
northern girls round & cylindrical
creep out with white empty pails
to chase the wind rather than boys

don’t paint dairies red
on fourth of July
but when mosquitoes fly
faster than
fireworks on Guy Fawke’s night
obstinate blood paints
the mix of colours we find on
the oblong face of the girl that hawks fura.
